GWS15 - F15 EDF64
« on: March 07, 2008, 10:12:31 AM »
Hi guys... I recently bought a GWS15 and have been having fun building up the plane slowly. Here are some pictures of the plane during the building process.

I must say the quality of the kit is astounding. They wings and wingmounts all align up nicely. The detachable wing is able to come in and out without problems, however the wing does seem a little loose when clipped on. I might need to glue the wing on ? Any other cures for this I wonder.

The moulding is fantastic and the instrutions on the manual is good enough for anyone with a little building experience.

I've uploaded the pictures to the gallery which is viewable at http://www.rcbuddies.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=6

Hi Adrian,

Nice plane! where you bought this? my friend have flown this birds, very stable and nice :) if you need more speed, don't close the upper cover, let more air go in, will gain more speed, my advice is this plane need more speed, will be more stable for this plane, too slow will cause stall.... ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I followed your advice and cut out some ventilation holes at the bottom of the body (below the cheater holes) so as to allow more air in. At first I thought the option to cut additional holes were for cooling which I thought I didn't need but after reading your post, I decided to cut the holes in for added airflow. Hope the plane doesn't stall on me ;) I also hope that the sand or pebbles don't get in through the holes... that would really bust up the fans.

Wow, that's really cool! How is it coming along? It's now the 21st, 12 days since your first set of photos. Post more photos! Make sure you let us know when you're ready to make the maiden flight. I can bring my Slowstick and we can (NOT) fly in formation!  ;)

Man... my park servos finally arrived from Taiwan through my LHS. Sure took long enough! Anyway finally managed to "glue" the servos in place. Ya I had to glue them coz everything is held together with glue. Hardly any screws on the plane except for the Tail Fin mountings.

I've also managed to glue the two halves of the fuse together.... That was quite a job in itself because I had to lay the glue ... and do it fast enough... so that the glue doesn't dry by the time I put the two halves (top & bottom) together. Ensuring the wiring was in place when the fuse went together was also another time consuming challenge. This plane uses a little too much glue for my liking. If anything happens to the servos or motors or the fan units... I'm afraid it'll be a lot of surgery going on. Hopefully that wouldn't come about too quickly. If it does, I'll probably scrap the plane seeing that it won't be perfect anymore.

Anyway here are some pics taken by my handphone. Sorry they're not too clear. Was too lazy to use my camera. Will post more pictures once the plane is totally completed. For now... everything is in except for the linkages to the Tail, Ailerons and Nose Gear. Also still have to put in carbon fibre reinforcement rods to my tail stab.

That's it for now....  :D

I painstakingly painted the rear engines black yesterday.... now gotta put the water based stickers on the plane. That's going to take a while as well. The plane looks good as it is... even for a display unit.

I guess there's nothing much more to do but I'm just taking things slow here. So when are you guys going out to the field... Will make a date with you all ;)

Thanks dude. Ya I agree that it is definitely underpowered but it is a good floater. Makes landings easy. I love the way the eagle lands. I will be changing to 4s soon. I am also curious to see what difference it makes. You think 3s and 4s will give a lot of speed/power difference on the 3900kv?

I was checking on the ESC and motors after coming home and guess what? I disconnected one of the parallel power wires to one of the ESC but both the motors continue to turn. And likewise it is the same when I disconnect the other. As long as I have one of the ESCs plugged into the battery, they both continue to run. Is that right? How can that be? Seems like both motors are getting the power via the ESCs with their Y-lead connected from the receiver. I always thought the power from the battery would need to be connected to both esc's power cable and not just to one of them. Anyway after disconnecting one of the wires, the motors ran smoothly instead of the pulsing vibration if both were connected. This is weird. Can anyone confirm why this happens?
