beginner need help~~~ hehehe
« on: May 15, 2008, 11:42:34 AM »
hihi... newbies here.. my name is edmond from kl.. 2 months ago i had bought my 1st rc heli.. V4.. after playing for few weeks later i have no time for it cause rushing my uni assignment and final exam.. then i bac to it again last week.. i clashed my heli few times and now the heli is not stable when hovering.. and the blades also wrecked abit at the edge there.. and here is my question

1. why on hovering that time the tail of the heli is shake up and down?? and the heli will move to right handside while i just increse the throttle stick and other stick trim i remain to the center??  and i been told that i need to counter the direction of the heli so that it will become stable but it just too much for me to counter it and when hover that time it still go to one side although i had counter it.. may i know what happen to my heli?? izit because of my blade o the center holder problem??  ???

2. there is the aluminium upgrade for V4.. and i not sure should i upgrade for it 1st so that it wont easy to be bent or what during clashing.. since i'm a beginner so clashing is a lot for for me... hehehe.. so should i upgrade it or remain plastic 1st and until i MASTER it then only change? and what is the function of this metal part?? will it make easier for beginner??  ::)

3. about the simulator.. i plan to get 1.. at the back of my remote control got the port for the simulation cable (soft-dog).. and i just need to get the cable.. is it better to buy the whole set simulator which come with the controller?? or just the cable since i got the port at my transmitter?? will it damage my transimitter if i use the my transmitter too often to run the simulation?  :o

soly to ask too many question... thank you thank you ;D

Hi Edmond... welcome to RCBuddies.com. Glad you could join us here.

I'll try to answer your questions to my best ability but no guarantees I am 100% rite haha.

To your first paragraph's comment, I noticed you mentioned that your blades are also wrecked a bit at the edge. One thing you should know is that for RC Helicopter, due to the high spinning of the main rotor blades and the load it generates, any little damage to the blades should always mean that it should be changed immediately. Do not try to fly the helicopter with damaged blades. It can be very very dangerous and it is not worth saving the money on something critical like that. So please go change the blades. This applies for both Main Rotors and Tail Rotors.

For your first paragraph, I can only imagine that the damaged blades has something to do with the nodding of your helicopter. Change the blades and see if it still nods. While changing the blades, please also check the shaft to ensure it is not bent. Basically your helicopter needs to be able to spool up or spin without any "vibrations".  Tails shaking up and down (resulting in a nodding effect) can also be due to a variety of factors like low rpms. You might want to try increasing your headspeed a little up or maybe sometimes even down. Are your tail blades damaged ? Is your tail blades and belt turning over smoothly?

If you find that your shaft is bent then you will need to replace the shaft and you can also perhaps replace the main headblock to alluminium. Its always better and more precise with alluminium headblocks plus it looks cool ;) Don't change it if you don't have to because as a beginner, there will indeed be quite a few crashes. It's unavoidable. You need not waste money here unless you want to. Basically alluminium is better than plastic but it is also costlier.

As for the simulator, if you already have the controller, then you should just use the controller unless you fear damaging it. I personally have a spare controller which I use for my sims. I have two because the one I use for my Sim is lighter than the one I use for my real flying. Apart from that, there's no reason why you need two separate controllers. As with all things, the more you use it... the faster it breaks down. But for it to breakdown, I would think you will need to use it A LOT before that happens. Go buy the cable and buy the sim and you'll save a lot of money when it comes to learning without having to pay for spare parts. I bought the original sim at RM800 or so (can't remember) and it has paid for itself many times over already.

Good Luck and Happy Flights!

Hi Edmund...

Sorry for the booboo. It didn't hit me that you were on the Lama V4 co-ax heli. Silly me. For your case then you should definitely change both set of blades if they are both damaged and I'd advise you not to waste money on the alluminium head. I didn't even know there was such an upgrade ;) Frankly speaking the heli that you have don't need it unless you want it to have some bling bling ;) Your chooper also doesn't have tail blades since it is a co-ax chopper so you don't have to worry about it.

If your chopper cannot keep a straight heading then a few things could be wrong... 1st is the gyro setting. 2nd is the POT (I think that's part of the gyro setting), 3rdly it could be that one of your two motors is almost burnt out thus it can't keep up with the other motor. you might need to change the motor (that's only after you've had many flights).

The V4 is a good chopper to learn hovering and most importanly orientation (Tail-in, side-in and nose-in). It will be a good stepping stone for you when you move up to a variable pitch chopper with tail rotors. Those are generally harder to fly but can do more "stunts" and have better control (thats if you know how to) haha...

Happy Flights!

hi adrian..

haha.. thanks once again for your kindly reply.. really know a lot of things since i post my question here.. i think i wont upgrade the metal parts so soon.. as i'm still a student (no income.. hahaha) so for now i will try to learn the proper skill 1st and also the mechanism inside it before i do any other fancy stuff on my heli and upgrade to non-coxial heli.. hahaha..

i will change the blades ASAP cause now i stil not yet back to kl.. so maybe after that i will fly it again.. hahaha..

once again thank you for your concern and patient..  ;)
