GWS IPS or alternative?
« on: June 09, 2008, 11:05:15 AM »
I bought a GWS Pico Stick-S and it was really good fun for awhile... but after just a few flights, the little IPS brushed motor packed up and died. Seems brushed motor life span is unpredictable? Now, here's the question - Based on members' experience, what should I do about it?

Motivations:
i) Continue flying the GWS Pico Stick-S.
ii) I have many scratch build plans that make use of a GWS IPS motor/gearbox, and due to size/shape/power constraints, it's convenient to stick to the plan, so-to-speak.

What to do about it:
a) Buy a replacement IPS motor for US$9.99 each, or even a handful.
b) Buy a similar replacement brushless motor to fit into the IPS gearbox for US$39.99 each.
c) Get some other power system for my Pico Stick-S? Recommendations?

What do you think?

Jason... I would personally go for the brushless. After having seen how brushed motors die off after the shortest time, I'm sold on brushless motors. Furthermore I'm sure you'll get sick of replacing motors. You might as well pay more initially and enjoy a lifetime usage of the brushless. After all... it only costs 4 brushed motors for 1 brushless. I'm sure you'll run through the 4 in no time (that's if you fly often).
