Super Tiger 45 ABC
« on: August 20, 2006, 07:39:32 PM »
Got a slight problem with my ST 45 engine. Seems like the barrel locks up when the engine is warmed up. Even with the air bleed screw fully screwed in, the barrel turns smoothly when the engine is cold... but when it heats up the barrel seems to lock up. The question now is.... why does it lock up? There has to be some play somewhere. Perhaps the screw got loose with all the vibration during the running of the engine and the barrel jammed up against it since there is a spring at one end of the barrel that provides the slight pressure and pushes out the barrel to ensure proper returning to idle position. If anyone has had a similar experience, I would love to hear about it and how you cured the problem.

Hi,

I do believe ST engine are a bit sensitive to heat and considering the type of fuel you use. Using fuel with less lube will generate a lot of heat and so more when you lean your the needle valve....  Like you said when it is cold the engine would run better but after a while the engine would to loose power.

In my opinion, if you are using 2 stroke fuel with less lube in cool condition then a little lean will work fine but after that it would be wise to rich it back and check rpm using your tach meter.

Btw, has this engine been break in properly?

 :)

The 45 has been broken in after so many flights but then again the key word is "properly". I would like to think it was run rich for the first few flights. Never ever did a bench run in though. Hmm its been a while since I ran my engine. Perhaps its time to do it again... before the nitro evaporates totally from my fuel!  :o

need to open up all, use solvent to wash it, maybe the engine is didn't run for long time, then got stuck, after clean up, assemble back, if still the same thing happen, then is time to change new engine..... :-\
