Hi there... Glad to see another new person involved in the hobby. I'm sure you love for helicopters will enable you to pick up the learning pace pretty quickly.
Though I am in no way qualified to be a SIFU, I can only advise you to take small steps at a time unless you have plenty of cash to use for repairs. Take small manageable steps and do learn to crawl before walking... or walking before running. It is very important for helicopters that you have the basics because they will help you get out of trouble when it comes looking for you.
Firstly would be to learn to HOVER Tail-in (i.e the nose is pointed away from you). Don't go flying around first. Just practice hovering tail-in until you can do it with your eyes closed *hehe* Well.. if you can hold the helicopter and hover it for 1 entire pack in that orientation (tail-in) then you're ready to go for the next stage, which is to hover side-in. First the right side-in, then left side-in. Once you're done with that... then only should you move to nose-in (nose pointed towards you). All this is done without flying the chopper around. Just hover it until you are good with any orientation then you can start hovering at different heights, distance and orientation from you. When you're done with all this then you can start flying figure 8s.
As you can see all this takes practice. As mentioned don't go overboard but don't take too small a steps too. It can really hinder your learning capabilities.
Good Luck! Have safe flights. Safety always comes first.
